Hey Guys,
I have just noticed after opening my apache access log file there is a HUGE amount of data in there which I was expecting but after checking the file size its 12 meg, no wonder it took soo darn long to open and go through.

Basically what I am wanting to achieve is rotate the access log on a daily basis (lets say around 4am each morning) making it small enough so I can read it without killing the box when I attempt to open it.

I have come across this page http://httpd.apache.org/docs/programs/rotatelogs.html which appears to do what I want but exactly how I go about implementing it I'm lost. I am pretty sure I've got the syntax part of it worked out but where it should go and telling it to run at that time is what I'm struggling with.

Of course any other suggestions on tackling this would be greatly appreciated, I've read about doing it using crond but still being the good old n00b something tells me I won't be doing that in a hurry.

Its the smallest things that I want to get done that often annoy me the most

Thanks
Cheers
Darren

Looks like you can either put that in your apache config file or just use rotatelogs manually.
